Charlton Athletic’s opening FA Women’s Championship fixture of the season against Lewes has been postponed.
The Addicks were set to travel to The Dripping Pan on Sunday afternoon but the game has been postponed due to the South East Londoners having a number of positive COVID-19 cases in their camp.
FA Women’s Super League Full-Time were notified of the postponement by the home club earlier this afternoon.
The postponement comes as a bitter blow for both clubs. Charlton Athletic turned full-time over the summer and head coach Karen Hills has assembled a 21-player professional squad. The Addicks are targeting a promotion push this season after receiving the financial backing of the board. Lewes manager Simon Parker has brought in no less than nine new faces over the summer and the club’s fans will be disappointed not to see those players in action at The Dripping Pan this weekend.
A new date for the postponed clash will be agreed between the two clubs in due course. At this stage, it is unknown whether Charlton Athletic’s first home game of the season against Coventry United next Sunday will also be affected. Lewes will hope to begin their season at Bristol City on the same day.
