Everton forward Toni Duggan says that there is a clear plan for the players to follow to take the club to the next level.
It has been a busy summer for The Blue Girls with nine new players coming in including some stellar names from the international game.
Speaking to FAWSL Full-Time in a recent FAWSL media event, Duggan hailed the quality which Everton have brought in this summer whilst adding that there is a clear plan in place for the club to progress.
“I think we have done really well (in the transfer window), obviously players are attracted to the club;” Duggan said.
“It has been a bit of a rollercoaster for Everton in the last couple of years, there have been ups and downs. When I was first here, the club was one of the best in England. There was a bit of a dip but the club is definitely back on the up now.
“We’ve got the full support of the club. I don’t know if Everton got all of their targets that they wanted this season but what I do know is that the quality that they have brought in is brilliant, it’s perfect.
“When we are out on the training pitch, it seems to be flowing, there seems to be a clear plan and we all know our roles and responsibilities and the direction that the club needs to go so we just need to go out and do it now and have a great season.”
Having re-joined Everton in the summer, Duggan will be hoping to help the club reach those new highs. The player does, however, recognise the foundations which were put down on Merseyside by last season’s squad while she has called for patience ahead of the new campaign.
She added “It doesn’t happen overnight. They’ve made a lot of signings this year but let’s not forget the great work that was done by the girls last year, they got to Wembley and they did really well in the league as well.
“We are looking to go to the next step now but we just need to be a bit patient with ourselves, it could take a while for a new team to gel. We know we’ve got quality and there are high expectations so it is just about managing that.”
Everton open their new Barclays FA Women’s Super League season against Manchester City at Goodison Park this afternoon. The match kicks-off at 1.30pm with tickets still on sale.
