Sheffield United head coach Neil Redfearn says that Saturday’s FA Women’s Championship fixture against Liverpool at Bramall Lane will be a great experience for his side.
The Blades return to S2 for the first time since May 2019 and with the club setting admission at just £1 per ticket, they are hoping to attract a record crowd for a women’s fixture.
Sheffield United usually play their home fixtures at The Technique Stadium in Chesterfield but head coach Redfearn believes that the return to the club’s spiritual home this weekend will be a wonderful occasion.
“These are the games that you look forward to and want to play in,” Redfearn said when speaking to SUTV. “To play at Bramall Lane with a decent crowd is great for the girls.
“I just want them to go out and be themselves because they have been performing so well. We are a good footballing side, we compete and we wear the shirt with pride. We want to give Liverpool a good game.”
Sheffield United and Liverpool go into the match level on points. The Blades are one place above Matt Beard’s Reds courtesy of their better goal difference. With the FA Women’s Championship title race being so closely contested this year, Redfearn knows just how important this weekend’s fixture could be.
He said “The occasion makes it an even more important game but the girls just need to keep doing what they have been doing. We are playing well, we’ve been consistent, we’ve been difficult to score against, we’ve been scoring at the other end so we’ve got to go down the same route.
“We know that Liverpool are a good side, they’re up there on merit, they’ve recruited well in the summer and are one of the fancied sides to go up but from our point of view, we are playing well and just need to concentrate on us.”
