Former Lyon boss Vasseur unveiled as new Everton manager

Everton have announced the appointment of Jean-Luc Vasseur as their new manager on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

The Blue Girls informed FAWSL Full-Time of the news via an official press release this evening.

The 52-year-old Frenchman replaces former boss Willie Kirk who left Everton earlier this month following a difficult start to the new season.

Vasseur has been out of work since April after he was sacked by former club Lyon. In his time with the French giants, he guided them to another UEFA Women’s Champions League success along with the French Division 1 Féminine championship and the Coupe de France Féminine. Vasseur also won the Trophée des Championnes and the Women’s International Champions Cup with Lyon.

After being appointed Everton manager, Vasseur said “It’s an honour to be here at Everton, which is such a famous club in England.

“I spoke with Sarvar Ismailov (Everton Women Sporting and Commercial Director) and he told me this is a big club with a big history and an amazing future.

“I’ve come here to write new history with Everton and to win titles. We have a lot of talent and resources so I think there is good capacity to improve. I have the ambition to build a team that can achieve Champions League qualification.

“We have to be patient and fight to win.”

Vasseur is expected to take charge of Everton for the first time in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League next weekend when they host Brighton & Hove Albion at Walton Hall Park.
