Veteran midfielder Davison leaves Aston Villa

Aston Villa have today confirmed the news that veteran midfielder Gemma Davison has left the club upon the expiry of her short term contract.

The Villans made the announcement this morning via a report on their official website.

The 34-year-old joined Aston Villa on trial in the summer following her release by former club Tottenham Hotspur. The player was offered a short term deal by Aston Villa boss Carla Ward just days before the start of the 2021/2022 Barclays FA Women’s Super League season. Davison went on to make seven appearances for Aston Villa in all competitions with three of those outings coming as starts. Just 63 minutes of her action in an Aston Villa shirt came in Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches.

With Aston Villa boss Ward expected to add to her squad in this month’s transfer window, the decision has been made for Davison to leave the club. The midfielder may now potentially look to prolong her career by searching for a move to what could be a 12th different club.

Davison started her glittering senior career with Arsenal back in 2005. The 16-times capped former England international midfielder has enjoyed four separate spells with The Gunners. Davison has also played in the United States while she has had successful spells with Liverpool and Chelsea.
