Manchester City v Arsenal – Stat Attack

Two sides in very different form meet at The Academy Stadium this evening when Manchester City take on Arsenal.

Gareth Taylor’s City side are enjoying a fine run of form which has seen them win six games on the spin in all competitions while opponents Arsenal have lost their last three matches.

Ahead of their meeting in Manchester, FAWSL Full-Time have analysed the match statistics provided by Opta as we bring you four facts which relate to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Manchester City and Arsenal.

Arsenal aiming for a first double

Following a 5-0 win against Manchester City earlier this season, Arsenal are looking to complete a Barclays FA Women’s Super League double over them for the first time. If this potential feat had been mentioned a month ago, you would fancy Arsenal to pull it off but this evening’s game now has a very different outlook. Only Bristol City and Birmingham City have completed league doubles over Manchester City with those records being created in 2014.

The Academy Stadium holds bad memories for Arsenal

Manchester City have won their last four home Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches against Arsenal, scoring 11 goals across these victories. Their last home defeat against The Gunners was way back in May 2017, a 1-0 defeat in which Jordan Nobbs struck the only goal from a free-kick.

Two sides with differing goal records

After scoring 11 goals in their first seven Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches this season, Manchester City have netted 17 in their last four matches, winning all four and conceding just twice across them. Meanwhile, Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat at Birmingham City last time out saw them fail to score in a Barclays FA Women’s Super League match for the first time this season.

Stanway’s on fire

Georgia Stanway has scored in her last four Barclays FA Women’s Super League appearances for Manchester City, netting five goals. The only two players to score in five games on the spin for Manchester City are Toni Duggan (May – August 2015) and Nikita Parris (September – October 2018). Parris could line-up against her former employers this evening.

The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Manchester City and Arsenal kicks-off at 6.45pm.
