PREVIEW: Durham v Sheffield United

Durham will hope to get their promotion push back on track in the FA Women’s Championship when Sheffield United are the visitors to Maiden Castle on Sunday.

The Wildcats surrendered further ground in the promotion race last weekend when they slipped to a 3-2 home defeat to Crystal Palace.

Durham manager Lee Sanders will again be without forward Nicki Gears who is sidelined with a long term injury. Captain Sarah Wilson could be considered for a recall to the starting XI while recent new signing Rio Hardy may be brought in for her first start after playing the final 20 minutes against Crystal Palace last weekend.

Sheffield United travel to the North East on the back of two solid results. The Blades opened 2022 with a credible goalless draw at Charlton Athletic before defeating Coventry United 3-1 at The Technique Stadium last weekend. Head coach Neil Redfearn is not thought to have any new injury concerns to contend with, however, Sheffield United remain without long term absentee Rhema Lord-Mears. Youngster Sam Sharrocks has been drafted into the first team squad ahead of this weekend’s game.

The FA Women’s Championship fixture between Durham and Sheffield United kicks-off at 12pm on Sunday. Tickets remain available and can either be purchased by clicking here or via card payment on the turnstiles.
