Manchester City keen to add another trophy to impressive tally – Taylor

Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor says that the club are keen to build on their record of winning seven trophies in seven seasons.

Since The Cityzens’ relaunch in 2014, the club have won one league title while they have also lifted each of the two domestic cups on three occasions.

Manchester City have another chance to lift a trophy this evening when they take on Chelsea in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup final. When speaking ahead of the match, head coach Taylor highlighted the club’s desire to expand on their impressive trophy tally.

“I wouldn’t necessarily say need (to win the trophy) but we want, we want to be successful and we are expected to be successful,” Taylor said when speaking in the pre-match press conference.

“In every competition, we try to do our very best but we know the reality is trying to win trophies is extremely hard. We have won seven trophies in our last seven seasons and we want more, it is as simple as that. I came here to win trophies and to be successful and we try to do that every single time we turn up.”

This evening’s final will be played out in-front of a sell-out crowd in Wimbledon and Taylor went on to say that it is good to see the FA Women’s Continental League Cup final attracting more attention both in the media and in the stands.

He said “Maybe the reason for having it at Wimbledon is the fact that it’s a smaller stadium and more chance of it being filled but it’s great, it’s fantastic. It is a great advert for the game the fact that the stadium is going to be sold out, the game is being played on BBC Two so there’s real good access for it.

“It’s a big step in the right direction for the women’s game because a couple of years ago, you would struggle to find that game on normal television, it’s a big step. We obviously had a full house a couple of weeks ago against United in The Academy Stadium and I think it made for a great atmosphere.”

The 2021/2022 FA Women’s Continental League Cup final between Chelsea and Manchester City kicks-off at 5.15pm.
