‘Lifting silverware is the ultimate goal’ – Chelsea’s Bright previews Conti Cup final

Chelsea defender Millie Bright says that lifting silverware is always top of the agenda for every player and she is hoping that her side can put on a show for the fans in tomorrow’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup final.

Bright will be a member of the Chelsea team who face Manchester City in the showpiece at The Cherry Red Records Stadium in Wimbledon. The Blues are bidding to lift the FA Women’s Continental League Cup for the third consecutive year.

The defender lifted the Arnold Clark Cup with England last month and she says that her eyes are now firmly set upon collecting another winners’ medal in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup final.

“Lifting silverware is the ultimate goal,” Bright said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “That is something that we always aim to do at this club, representing Chelsea is all about winning medals and playing on the highest of stages.

“Tomorrow is like any other game, we want to win, we want to be the best and we want to put a show on for the fans like we always do.”

Chelsea have kept three clean sheets in three games against FA Women’s Continental League Cup final opponents Manchester City this season. The Cityzens are arguably in their strongest form right now but Bright said that the defensive focus does not change given Gareth Taylor’s side’s good run of results.

She said “Every game has been tough, in every game against them we’ve had different things thrown at us. We know what they are about, we know what their strengths are and for us, keeping clean sheets is something that we pride ourselves on, nothing changes there.

“City are in form, they are a top team so every time that we play them, we want to be ruthless in defence. You have to be switched on of course because they have some top talent across their front-line, they are in form right now and they have got their players back but that’s why you want to face the top teams.”

The FA Women’s Continental League Cup final between Chelsea and Manchester City kicks-off at 5.15pm on Saturday evening.
