London City Lionesses star Napier hungry to become a greater attacking threat

London City Lionesses forward Jamie-Lee Napier says that she is hungry to grow the attacking side of her game with the club.

The 22-year-old joined The Pride last summer and she has started every FA Women’s Championship game for the club this season.

Despite clocking up 19 league appearances for London City Lionesses, Napier has netted just one goal so far this season. When speaking to FAWSL Full-Time, the Scot said that she is very hungry to increase her attacking contribution to the side.

“I said at the start of the season that I wanted to add goals and assists to the team,” Napier said. “I haven’t contributed as many as I wanted but I am hungry and the season is not over yet, we’ve got three games left and that’s three games where I can get some goals and assists. I am going to work on that and hopefully, I can do that and help the team.

“I am hungry for next season and that’s going to be a big aim. I’m going to work hard so that I can come back fresh next season and bang in some goals and assists and help the team get promotion.”

London City Lionesses are the lowest scorers in the top half of the FA Women’s Championship table. Despite their lack of goals at times, The Pride look to have real balance in their attack with Napier on the left and Karin Muya on the right. Napier went on to say how much she enjoys playing alongside Muya up the top end of the pitch whilst adding that she is pleased to see her teammate return following injury.

She said “I really enjoy playing in the front-three. Against Charlton, we had great movement as a front-three and we attacked at pace. It was really good to have Karin back, she had been missing for a couple of weeks due to a little injury but it was so good to have her back, she made a real impact scoring two goals.

“It’s just great having her back in the squad, she brings so much to the team. It’s great to play alongside her and all of the girls. I think Lily Agg does such a good job for us up there too, her and Brooke (Nunn) gave us a little bit of balance against Charlton and they gave them a different problem.

“Each week, we are trying as a front-three to provide goals and assists, trying to help the team as much as we can. I think we are doing that now.”

Napier and London City Lionesses return to action on Thursday evening when Lewes are the visitors to Princes Park in the FA Women’s Championship.
