London City Lionesses midfielder Agg nets on international debut for Republic of Ireland

London City Lionesses midfielder Lily Agg scored on her senior international debut as the Republic of Ireland defeated The Philippines 1-0 at the Bellis Sports Centre in Antalya, Turkey this afternoon.

The 28-year-old previously represented England on the international stage in her youth. She was on Republic of Ireland head coach Vera Pauw’s radar for a while before being handed her first call-up by ‘The Girls in Green’ back in March. Brighton-born Agg qualifies to represent the Republic of Ireland through her Cork-born grandmother.

The midfielder was handed her Republic of Ireland debut as they took on The Philippines in Turkey this afternoon in a friendly match and she made her mark just 35 minutes into her senior international career. Agg swept the ball in from six yards after teammate Stephanie Roche’s initial effort had been saved by the keeper. That goal proved to be the decisive one as Agg came away the match winner and having been awarded the Player of the Match.

The international friendly against The Philippines was arranged by Republic of Ireland head coach Pauw to help prepare her side for their upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 qualifier against Georgia in Gori.

‘The Girls in Green’ are in third place in their qualification group but are just two points behind second-placed Finland with a game in hand.
