Chelsea’s latest opponents PSG are potential challengers for European crown says Eriksson

Chelsea captain Magda Eriksson says that this evening’s opponents Paris Saint-Germain are one of a handful of clubs who could win this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League.

The Blues face The Parisians at the Stade Jean-Bouin in their first match in this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage.

Both clubs have appeared in UEFA Women’s Champions League finals in recent seasons but neither have lifted the trophy. When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Chelsea defender Eriksson said that opponents Paris Saint-Germain can be classed as potential European title challengers again this season.

“There are a handful of teams that can win the Champions League this season,” Eriksson told FAWSL Full-Time. “That’s why it is so exciting because there’s not one clear favourite, a lot of teams can do it and I count PSG as one of those teams who can do it.

“They have really good players, for example (Kadidiatou) Diani. She is an amazing player, I think she showed that during the EUROs and she is going to be a big threat that we will need to stop.”

Summer signings Ève Périsset and Kadeisha Buchanan both joined Chelsea from French clubs and Eriksson said that their knowledge of that league can be important.

She said “We definitely share our experiences with each other. I recently played against the French national team as well so I have played many of these players before.

“We share our experiences and try to help each other as much as we can. It is really good to have Kadeisha and Ève’s experience in the team and I think that they have been great additions to our squad as well.”

Chelsea’s UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage match against Paris Saint-Germain kicks-off at 8pm.
