Liverpool’s defensive midfielder Charlotte Wardlaw has seen her season-long loan spell on Merseyside cut short and she will now return to her parent club Chelsea.
The news was announced earlier this afternoon via a post on Liverpool’s official club Twitter account.
Wardlaw has spent the last one-and-a-half seasons on loan at Liverpool. She helped the Merseyside club to win a long-awaited promotion back to the Barclays Women’s Super League in May having joining the club on a season-long loan arrangement at the start of last season. The youngster re-joined The Reds on another season-long loan deal for the 2022/2023 campaign but she is returning to parent club Chelsea mid-way through that agreement.
The full details behind the decision for Wardlaw to return to Chelsea have not been disclosed, however, the player has struggled for regular minutes this season with competition for places in the Liverpool squad being very strong. Wardlaw has started just one of Liverpool’s nine Barclays Women’s Super League matches this season while she has come off the bench on three occasions.
Wardlaw made 18 appearances in Liverpool’s Barclays Women’s Championship title-winning season in 2021/2022 and while this season has been a challenging one, the player’s time on Merseyside has been a success overall.
#LFCW can confirm that Charlotte Wardlaw is to return to her parent club Chelsea Women.
We would like to thank Charlotte for her efforts and wish her every success in the future:
