Tottenham Hotspur defender Esther Morgan has joined Barclays Women’s Championship club Sunderland on loan for the remainder of the season.
The Lady Black Cats confirmed the news via a squad update on their official club website last night.
Morgan joins Sunderland after most recently spending time on loan at fellow Barclays Women’s Championship club Coventry United. The 20-year-old was with The Red and Greens during the first half of the season, making four appearances for the Warwickshire club in all competitions.
The defender is very highly-rated by parent club Spurs. Morgan made the breakthrough into the North Londoners’ senior squad during the 2020/2021 season and made a handful of appearances for the club. A long-term injury severely halted Morgan’s progress with Spurs but game time out on loan with Barclays Women’s Championship clubs this season will only help her long-term prospects with The Lillywhites.
After securing her move to latest loan club Sunderland, Morgan said “I’m really happy. I’m just excited to get started now and get to play football at such a good club.”
Morgan could make her Sunderland debut against top tier side Manchester United in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup fourth round at The Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground on Sunday.
