Montpellier forward Alexander joins Reading

Reading have completed the signing of Montpellier forward Tinaya Alexander on a permanent transfer.

The Royals announced news of the transfer via an update on their official club website late yesterday afternoon.

The 23-year-old is Reading-born and she represented her hometown club in her youth prior to joining the Arsenal academy.

Alexander started out in American college football with the Louisiana State University Tigers before joining National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club Washington Spirit. The player moved to French club Montpellier for an undisclosed fee in September last year but she has now sealed a return home to Reading.

Despite being a couple of years into her senior playing career, Alexander has largely found herself on the fringes of teams. She was frequently used as a substitute by Washington Spirit and that theme continued at Montpellier. Alexander will be keen to finally get a string of starts under her belt with latest club Reading.

Alexander becomes Reading’s third signing of the January transfer window following the recent signings of midfielder Jade Moore on a loan deal from Manchester United and Cameroon international defender Easther Mayi Kith. The player has been named in the Reading squad for this afternoon’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Liverpool.
