Aston Villa midfielder Freya Gregory is set to miss the remainder of the season as she recovers from glandular fever.

The Villans’ head coach Carla Ward confirmed the news this morning in an official club press conference.

Ward confirmed that Gregory picked up the illness last weekend and she was ruled out of the club’s 3-3 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at The Breyer Group Stadium as a consequence. The player’s illness will keep her sidelined for a while and Aston Villa are not expecting Gregory to be available for selection again this season.

Gregory started her youth career with Aston Villa before crossing the Second City to join Birmingham City. The youngster returned to Aston Villa in 2020 and she has progressed in the first team. Gregory has made seven appearances for Aston Villa in the Barclays Women’s Super League this season with her only start coming in the 5-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford in December. The England youth international is very much one for the future at The Poundland Bescot Stadium, she is a real exciting prospect.

Aston Villa will be without Gregory for their final four matches of the season. Ward’s side face Manchester United in their next match at The Poundland Bescot Stadium tomorrow night.
