Former London City Lionesses defender Harley Bennett has joined newly-promoted Barclays Women’s Championship club Watford on a free transfer.
The Golden Girls announced news of the transfer via a post on their official club website earlier today.
Centre-back Bennett moves to Grosvenor Vale after spending the last four seasons with London City Lionesses. Bennett made 75 appearances for The Pride while she scored four goals. The defender has been part of a London City Lionesses side that have pushed for promotion in the last couple of seasons.
With Bennett’s new club Watford looking to keep themselves out of relegation trouble this season, the player’s second tier experience could be vital.
It has been a very busy 24 hours at Watford with the Hertfordshire club getting their squad-building for the new season in full swing. Head coach Damon Lathrope has been able to agree contract extensions with 12 members of his promotion-winning squad while defender Bennett has become Watford’s first summer signing.
Watford are expected to complete a number of other deals before the new Barclays Women’s Championship season gets underway at the end of next month. Bringing more experienced players in will be key with The Golden Girls wanting to avoid another immediate relegation.
