Continuation of consistency important for West Ham says Skinner

West Ham United manager Rehanne Skinner says that continued consistency in performance is important if her side are to keep on picking up results.

The Hammers go into this weekend’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Everton after recording back-to-back wins over Bristol City and Arsenal. The East Londoners now have the opportunity to move three points clear of their latest opponents on Merseyside.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, West Ham United boss Skinner said that consistency is key to continuing the recent good form.

“At the end of the day, it’s very close in the bottom half of the table and I think we just want to focus on doing what we’ve been doing for the last couple of games which is the way that we approach it and the way that we want to play,” Skinner said. “It’s just about making sure we are consistent with that. I’ve said all season that once we start getting consistency, we will get the benefit in performances and results.

“It’s just trusting the process. Sometimes, that’s quite hard outwardly for people to do but in here, we all know what we are doing and the direction of travel.

“This weekend is another game the same. We want to get as many points out of the remaining games this season as we possibly can starting with this one because it’s the next one.”

West Ham United were without a competitive game last weekend following their early Adobe Women’s FA Cup exit. Skinner revealed that her side were still able to prepare for this weekend’s fixture in the best possible way.

She said “We had a behind-closed-doors friendly on Sunday. We felt like the momentum that we had, we wanted to maintain and ensure that the squad is ready. It was a great opportunity to do that this weekend.

“It was really important to me to continue the consistency of what we were doing, so we approached the game exactly as we would a league game because I don’t think now is the right time to have a gap in fixtures.

“We had some positive performances and it was a really worthwhile process for us. It’s helped us to prepare going into this weekend.”
