Former Arsenal defender Dominique Bloodworth and former Chelsea goalkeeper Hedvig Lindahl will join their VfL Wolfsburg teammates in a week-long quarantine training camp ahead of the return of the FLYERALARM Frauen-Bundesliga next weekend.
Both players have featured heavily for the German champions so far this season and that trend is expected to continue when the She-Wolves return to action against 1. FC Koln at the AOK-Stadion on Friday evening.
The FLYERALARM Frauen-Bundesliga was recently given the green light to return following the Coronavirus pandemic, however, clubs must adhere to some strict health and hygiene guidelines which have been issued by The German Football Association, the DFB. German media outlet SportBuzzer have reported that part of those measures will see VfL Wolfsburg continue their preparations for a return to action by spending a week in a quarantine training camp at a local hotel.
Former Arsenal defender Bloodworth and former Chelsea goalkeeper Lindahl joined the She-Wolves last summer after ending their respective spells playing in England. Bloodworth has appeared in 14 of VfL Wolfsburg’s 16 league matches while teammate Lindahl is an ever-present.
The return to action for VfL Wolfsburg on Friday signals the start of a frantic period of fixtures for the German club. Stephan Lerch’s side will play six league matches in just 31 days while the club remain involved in the German Cup, the DFB Pokal Frauen. They also await news on their continued participation in the UEFA Women’s Champions League with that competition having been suspended since March.
