Former Birmingham City keeper makes Rovers return

Former Birmingham City goalkeeper Alex Brooks has completed a move to FA Women’s Championship side Blackburn Rovers according to reports on the Lancashire club’s official website.

The 25-year-old returns to Rovers almost two-years on from a successful spell with the club in the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division.

Brooks moves to the Sir Tom Finney Stadium on a free transfer after her contract with former club Birmingham City expired in June. She will compete with fellow new signing Emma Bradley for Rovers’ number one jersey this season.

Like new teammate Bradley, Brooks has previously learnt her trade with Barclays FA Women’s Super League club Manchester City. The keeper spent more than a decade on City’s books, rising through the club’s academy system before later going on to enjoy a handful of appearances at first team level.

Since making her first team outings for City, Brooks has spent time with Everton, AFC Fylde, Sheffield United and Birmingham City, along with her first spell at Blackburn Rovers.

Rovers boss Donnelly has now brought two new players to the club so far this summer in Bradley and Brooks. More business is expected with Rovers yet to replace star striker Natasha Flint who recently left the club.
