Everton’s Dutch defender rejoins FC Twente on permanent deal

Everton defender Kika van Es has rejoined Dutch Eredivisie Vrouwen club FC Twente on a permanent deal according to reports on The Blue Girls’ official club website.

The 28-year-old Dutch International defender has spent the last 14 months on Merseyside after joining Everton from Ajax last summer.

It has this evening been reported that Van Es has returned to her homeland, re-signing for former club FC Twente for an undisclosed fee. The player spent one year of her career with ‘The Strong Women’ between 2017 and 2018 before moving to Ajax.

During her time with latest side Everton, Van Es represented the club in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League on 10 occasions while she helped The Blue Girls reach the quarter-finals of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup. Her last involvement in Willie Kirk’s squad came on the opening day of this season when she was an unused substitute as Everton defeated Bristol City 4-0 at Twerton Park.

Van Es was a key member of the Dutch squad which won a maiden UEFA Women’s EURO title in 2017 with the defender featuring in every match for Sarina Wiegman’s side. She also made the final 23-player squad for the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019 as The Netherlands reached the final of the tournament for the very first time in their history. She was most recently an unused substitute as her country won 1-0 in Russia on Friday in their latest UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 qualifier.

The player has left Everton with the club’s best wishes as she looks to win the Eredivisie Vrouwen title for the second time in her career with FC Twente.
