Former Liverpool attacker Shanice van de Sanden has brought an end to her three-year stay with European champions Lyon by joining German side VfL Wolfsburg according to reports on The She-Wolves’ official website.
The 27-year-old Utrecht-born forward spent a little over 16 months in England with Liverpool, representing the then-FA Women’s Super League 1 club between 2016 and 2017.
Van de Sanden represented The Reds on 28 occasions in all competitions but moved to European champions Lyon after being one of the shining lights for The Netherlands at the UEFA Women’s EURO 2017 as the home nation won the tournament for the very first time. The forward netted the opening goal of the tournament as The Netherlands defeated Norway 1-0 in front of a packed out Stadion Galgenwaard in Van de Sanden’s home city of Utrecht.
In 2016, Van de Sanden was a member of a Liverpool side which finished in fifth place in the FA Women’s Super League 1 while she helped the club end the 2017 FA Women’s Super League 1 Spring Series in fourth position.
In her three years since leaving the Merseyside club, Van de Sanden has won three consecutive French Division 1 Feminine and UEFA Women’s Champions League titles along with two Coupe de France Feminines. The player has now joined a VfL Wolfsburg side who were runners-up to Lyon in the 2019/2020 UEFA Women’s Champions League final.
