Arsenal defender Leah Williamson has been declared fit to feature in Saturday’s North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur according to reports on The Gunners’ official website.
The 23-year-old Milton Keynes-born centre-back pulled out of England’s training camp at St George’s Park last weekend with the reason for her withdrawal being left undisclosed by The Football Association.
Arsenal boss Joe Montemurro has been speaking with the media ahead of Saturday’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup quarter-final showdown with Spurs at Meadow Park and he has confirmed that defender Williamson is fit and is expected to be available for selection.
The defender appeared in all of Arsenal’s 15 fixtures in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League last season, including the 2-0 victory over Saturday’s opponents Spurs in November. Williamson has also played the full 180 minutes of Arsenal’s victories over Reading and West Ham United this term.
Arsenal only played Spurs once last season. The league fixture at Meadow Park was postponed on safety grounds as a result of Storm Ciara while Saturday’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup tie was originally scheduled for March before the Covid-19 outbreak wiped out the footballing calendar.
While declaring Williamson as fit, The Gunners boss Montemurro also confirmed that he will check the fitness of in-form midfielder Jill Roord who picked up a minor knock whilst away on international duty with The Netherlands.
