Manchester United’s Amy Turner is using her head in the opening weeks of the new Barclays FA Women’s Super League season with the defender having won more aerial duals than any other player.
The latest statistics highlight just how dominant the defender has been in the air so far this season with Turner ranking considerably higher than any teammate or opposition player.
In total, Turner has won 93.8% of her aerial duels, which is considerably higher than the next best percentage of 88.9% recorded by Everton’s Damaris Egurrola. Brighton & Hove Albion defender Rebekah Stott has been successful in 85.7% of her aerial duels while Reading’s Emma Mitchell (84.6%) is fourth in the rankings. The next most-dominant Manchester United player in the air is midfielder Hayley Ladd who has won 83.3% of her battles.
Defender Turner has featured in four of Manchester United’s five Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches to date. The Red Devils have conceded one goal every 157 minutes with Turner on the field compared to a goal every 45 minutes without her.
An experienced defender who is now in her third year at the Leigh Sports Village, Turner is an important member of the Manchester United backline. Success is always built upon solid foundations and the player certainly brings reliability and confidence both in the air and on the ground.
