Chelsea defender Magda Eriksson was on target for Sweden as they defeated Latvia 7-0 in their latest UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 qualifying match in Gothenburg this evening.
Eriksson netted the Swedes’ fourth goal in the rout while she collected the Player of the Match award. There was also an assist for Chelsea teammate Jonna Andersson.
Sweden broke the deadlock after just two minutes at the Gamla Ullevi Stadium through Lina Hurtig before Anna Anvegard soon made it 2-0. Olivia Schough netted a third goal before Eriksson headed home Sweden’s fourth after getting on the end of a corner kick.
Peter Gerhardsson’s side were to go into the break 5-0 up with Chelsea’s Andersson teeing up Pauline Hammarlund to score.
Hammerlund doubled her personal goal tally for the evening shortly after the restart before the goals began to dry up, largely due to a mix of substitutions and some wayward finishing from the hosts. There was to be one final Swedish goal with Filippa Curmark firing home four minutes from time to complete a 7-0 victory.
Sweden move three points ahead of Iceland at the top of their qualification group ahead of Tuesday’s meeting between the two nations in Gothenburg.
