Chelsea defender Magda Eriksson has been nominated for the Swedish Defender of the Year award.
The Swedish Football Association, the SvFF, announced the shortlist for their Footballer of the Year awards yesterday with Chelsea’s Eriksson making an appearance in the women’s defender category.
Eriksson has been named amongst the top three nominations for the defender award alongside Bayern Munich’s Hanna Glas and Linda Sembrandt of Juventus. The Chelsea defender has played every minute of UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 qualifying for Sweden as they have gone on to secure their place in the tournament finals. Eriksson scored in recent victories over Hungary and Latvia. The player also featured heavily for her nation at the 2020 Algarve Cup.
For her club, Eriksson helped Chelsea to a first FA Women’s Continental League Cup success earlier this year while she was also a member of Emma Hayes’ squad which won the 2019/2020 Barclays FA Women’s Super League title on a points-per-game basis.
Another familiar face from a Chelsea perspective is also in the frame for a Swedish Footballer of the Year award. Former goalkeeper and club legend Hedvig Lindahl has been shortlisted in the goalkeeper category.
All of the winners of this year’s awards are expected to be unveiled in a televised ceremony on 24 November.
