Icelandic international goalkeeper Cecilia Ran Runarsdottir is rumoured to have been monitored by Barclays FA Women’s Super League clubs Chelsea and Everton according to reports by German media outlet Soccerdonna.
The 17-year-old stopper currently plays her football with Icelandic club Fylkir while she became the youngest-ever goalkeeper to represent the national team when she played against Northern Ireland in March last year.
Reports in the German media suggest that Runarsdottir is currently assessing her career options with a move to England or the United States being a realistic prospect.
It has been suggested that both Chelsea and Everton have been monitoring the youngster’s progress, although a move to the former seems highly unlikely given the fact that the South West Londoners currently have four senior goalkeepers on their books. Everton boss Kirk currently has one of the most highly-rated goalkeepers in England in his squad in the form of Sandy MacIver, although with veteran Tinja-Riikka Korpela turning 35 this year, it may be that Runarsdottir could be one of the goalkeepers considered to provide competition to MacIver in future years.
The Icelandic goalkeeper was crowned the Urvalsdeild Young Player of the Season for 2020 and it seems like only a matter of time before the youngster tests herself at a greater level. Whether that will be with a club in England or in another country remains to be seen.
