Liverpool sign former Welsh youth international midfielder Holland

Liverpool have completed the signing of midfielder Ceri Holland from the University of Kansas Jayhawks according to reports on The Reds’ official website.

Holland had previously plied her trade in the Manchester City academy before making the trip across the Atlantic where she has spent the last four years before completing her studies.

The former Welsh youth international made 75 consecutive starts for her college side prior to her final season being cut short by COVID-19. Holland represented the Welsh Under-19 side on three occasions and she will have her eyes set on a senior call-up now that she has returned to the UK.

Holland, who can play in both defence and midfield, will wear the number 18 shirt with her new club and she could make her first appearance for Liverpool next weekend against Charlton Athletic.

Upon signing for Liverpool, Holland told The Reds’ official media sources “I’m excited to get here and start with the girls.

“It’s just an honour really to be representing such a big club. For them to give me this opportunity is just amazing for me and I’m really excited to get going.

“It’s a good environment to be in and an environment where I think I can add something to it and help the team with results. That’s my aim.

“I just can’t wait to get going now and get on the pitch and start playing football again and represent a great club.”

Liverpool currently sit in fourth position in the FA Women’s Championship table. As it stands, they have two games in hand on two of the three the sides above them and could yet close the gap on the leading pack, although one would imagine that it won’t be enough to challenge Leicester City and Durham for the promotion spot.
