Arsenal’s Jill Roord and Danielle van de Donk and Manchester United’s Jackie Groenen were all on target for The Netherlands as they defeated Australia 5-0 in an international friendly in Nijmegen this evening.
Midfield pair Roord and Groenen were on target in the first half while Van de Donk got her name on the scoresheet in the second period as Sarina Wiegman’s side bounced back from Friday’s 1-0 defeat to Spain in style against an Australia side who are still finding their feet under new head coach Tony Gustavsson.
The Dutch took the lead after just five minutes at the Goffertstadion when Arsenal forward Vivianne Miedema teed up Roord to score.
The second goal of the game also had an Arsenal involvement as Van de Donk provided an assist for Lieke Martens before Groenen netted a third from a Miedema pass.
The Netherlands extended their lead 22 minutes into the second half through Lineth Beerensteyn before Van de Donk finished from close range to make it 5-0.
This evening’s fixture saw Chelsea forward Sam Kerr collect her 90th senior international cap for Australia but it was a miserable occasion for the Westfield Matildas who managed just two shots on target throughout the entire 90 minutes.
