Chelsea forward Fran Kirby has been named the FA Women’s Super League Player of the Year 2021 at this evening’s London Football Awards.
The 27-year-old Reading-born attacker has battled back from serious illness to star for Emma Hayes’ Chelsea side this season.
Kirby has made 17 appearances for The Blues in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League so far this season. The player has built an astonishing goal involvement record which has seen her score 14 goals and provide 10 assists. Kirby has stuck up a near-telepathic connection with Australian international forward Sam Kerr, a partnership which has terrified many top flight defences over the course of the season.
The England international was one of five London-based players shortlisted for the FA Women’s Super League Player of the Year 2021 award at this evening’s London Football Awards. She was joined by club teammate Pernille Harder and Arsenal trio Vivianne Miedema, Jen Beattie and Leah Williamson. It was Kirby who topped the voting and took the honour of being London’s best FA Women’s Super League player.
Kirby was the second Chelsea player to win an award this evening. Teammate Niamh Charles was voted the London Women’s Young Player of the Year 2021 after beating Arsenal’s Malin Gut and Tottenham Hotspur’s Angela Addison to the award. Blues boss Emma Hayes was up for the London Manager of the Year award but she came as a runner-up to West Ham United’s David Moyes.
