Welcome to the fifth weekly update from Manchester City Women Official Supporters’ Club.
We have had a other busy week. Despite it being the close season domestically, we have been gripped by FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019 fever and are now really excited for the tournament.
The past week has seen some of our members travel to Scotland’s send-off game against Jamaica , in which our very own Caroline Weir netted a beauty and also on Saturday some made the long trip down to The Amex Stadium in Brighton to see the Lionesses’ final warm up game against New Zealand. Although not the result which most of us wanted, it is all good preparation for the big kick-off versus Scotland next week.
We have many members travelling out to France this week and staying for the whole tournament, hopefully following England and Scotland to the later stages. Not all of our members have the time or financial resources to be able to travel to France and we wanted to do something to mark the start of the tournament for them. We have arranged both a curry night and a fun afternoon together next weekend where we will have a quiz, raffle and a few laughs before watching the big game as a group.
Here at City, we have seen Claire Emslie depart and we wish her well over in USA next season. We have made some new additions ourselves in the form of Matilde Fidalgo and Laura Coombs. Fidalgo is an international right-back for Portugal, who being the cousin of City legend Bernardo Silva, has received an exceptionally warm welcome from us Blues while midfielder Coombs joins us from Liverpool.
Enjoy your week and safe travels to all heading to France.
