FIFA Women’s World Cup stars of the FAWSL – West Ham United’s internationals

The FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019 sees three West Ham United players selected to represent their national teams.

Ria Percival is a representative for New Zealand and she has collected her 140th and 141st senior international caps in the Football Ferns’ opening two group matches in what is the player’s seventh major international tournament.

She has previously represented New Zealand at the 2007, 2011 and 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cups as well as three Olympic Games in a career spanning 13 years. The defender is the most capped and most senior player currently in the squad and is a mentor for many of her teammates.

Highly experienced Scottish international Jane Ross received a call-up to represent her country. The forward, who is currently the highest scoring player in the squad with 58 goals, will be looking to add to her tally in Scotland’s remaining games in France. She was an unused substitute against England in Nice before starting the match against Japan in Rennes on Friday.

Adriana Leon is a member of the Canada side but has struggled for game time at the tournament so far. She has started both games against Cameroon and New Zealand as a substitute, coming off the bench against the latter.

The midfielder has previously represented the Canucks at the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup in 2012 and made her senior debut against China in 2013. She scored the winning goal in the 2013 Four Nations tournament. Leon has since also represented the team in the 2014 Cyprus Cup, 2015 Four Nations tournament and FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s Championship. She currently holds 58 caps and has netted 15 goals in her six-year senior international career.
