Brighton and Hove Albion have today announced the signing of Dutch international defender Danique Kerkdijk following her recent departure from fellow FA Women’s Super League club Bristol City.
The 23-year-old defender has signed a one-year contract with the Sussex club after featuring 19 times last season for former side Bristol City.
Kerkdijk is currently away at the FIFA Women’s World Cup with The Netherlands but hasn’t featured for the Dutch so far. She brings her valuable experience on the international stage to Brighton & Hove Albion while the player has also featured in the UEFA Women’s Champions League during her time with former club FC Twente. The Dutch defender helped The Netherlands win the UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship in 2014 before making her debut for the senior team in 2015 in a friendly win over Belarus.
Kerkdijk’s first involvement for Brighton & Hove Albion could come against her former club on the opening
day of the FA Women’s Super League season. The Seagulls are set to travel to the Stoke Gifford Stadium on either the 7 or 8 September.
In other news, it has been announced that Chloe Peplow and Marie Hourihan have left the The Peoples Pension Stadium. Peplow departs having made 25 appearances since joining Albion in 2017 while Irish goalkeeper Hourihan moves on after making 14 appearances last season, keeping three clean sheets.
