Brighton & Hove Albion complete signing of goalkeeper Walsh

Brighton & Hove Albion today announced the signing of 24-year-old goalkeeper Megan Walsh on a one-year contract.

Walsh becomes Albion’s third summer signing following the additions of Danique Kerkdijk and Matilde Skovsen who were added to the squad last week.

The player joins The Seagulls to help strengthen their goalkeeping department after the summer departures of Marie Hourihan and Lucy Gillett.

Walsh started her career at Aston Villa where she made 33 appearances for The Midlands side. She then spent two seasons with Everton before joining Notts County in 2015. In 2017, she signed for Yeovil Town where she impressed in a difficult first season for The Lady Glovers. She featured in every game for the Somerset outfit last season and was rewarded for a number of impressive displays with the Bristol Street Motors PFA Player of the Month award in November. Walsh collected 33% of the voted, 12% more than Arsenal’s Danielle van de Donk in second place.

Walsh also has international experience having played for England at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-23 levels.
She has also represented Great Britain at the 2017 Summer Universiade women’s tournament held
in Taiwan.

The remainder of the FA Women’s Super League fixtures were also announced today, the first game of the season was already revealed last week with Brighton & Hove Albion travelling to Bristol City on 8 September. The first team to travel to The People’s Pension Stadium in Crawley will be UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-finalists Chelsea on 15 September.

Other notable fixtures for the Sussex club include a trip to newly promoted Manchester United on 24 November
while they will host last season’s champions Arsenal on 12 January. The Seagulls face a difficult end
to the season, travelling to Chelsea and Liverpool before finishing the campaign with a fixture against Manchester
City on 16 May.
