West Ham United’s FA Women’s Super League fixture against Everton at Rush Green on Sunday has been postponed due to illness in The Hammers’ camp.
An outbreak of flu has swept through the West Ham United squad in the last few days resulting in the club requesting a postponement due to a number of players being doubtful for the match due to the illness.
West Ham United confirmed the postponement on their official club website earlier this evening ahead of Everton’s scheduled departure for the capital.
The postponement is the East Londoners’ second on the bounce with their final game of 2019 at Bristol City having been called off due to a waterlogged pitch at the Stoke Gifford Stadium. The disruption will be a real headache for West Ham United manager Matt Beard and his side with the club having collected four points from their last two matches after a previous difficult run of form.
Regardless of this weekend’s results, West Ham United are likely to start 2020 in eighth place in the FA Women’s Super League table while Everton could temporarily drop as low as seventh should Reading and Tottenham Hotspur win their respective fixtures.
A new date for the fixture is set to be announced in due course. Tickets purchased for the match will be valid for the rearranged fixture or fans can opt to claim a refund from West Ham United.
