Manchester United midfielder signs contract extension

Manchester United midfielder Leah Galton has signed a new one-year deal at the Leigh Sports Village according to the club’s official media sources.

The 25-year-old Harrogate-born winger was set to be out of contract at the end of the season but the player has impressed manager Casey Stoney enough to be offered a new deal.

Manchester United have announced that Galton will now remain at the club until summer 2021 while the club hold an option to extend the contract by a further year.

Galton joined The Red Devils in summer 2018 after leaving former club Bayern Munich and the player was instrumental as the club won the FA Women’s Championship title at the first attempt. The former England Under-23 international midfielder has made the step up to FA Women’s Super League level with ease with Galton being one of United’s top performers in the top flight this season. In her 18 months at the Leigh Sports Village, Galton has made 34 appearances for Manchester United, scoring six goals.

After playing with local clubs Knaresborough Celtic and Harrogate Railway as a young teenager, Galton joined Leeds United where she started her senior career. The midfielder then spent five years in America where she represented both Hofstra Pride and Sky Blue FC. A short spell in Germany with Bayern Munich followed before Galton moved to United and has since seen her career really lift off.
