Chelsea duo Ji So-Yun and Sam Kerr have returned to the club following international duty, although the pair are likely to be rested as The Blues take on Liverpool in the Women’s FA Cup fifth round on Monday evening.
Midfielder Ji has been representing South Korea in their qualifying matches for Tokyo 2020 while recent signing Kerr has been away with Australia.
Chelsea confirmed on Friday that the players have returned to the club, however, given the hectic international fixture schedule and the number of miles which they have had to travel, Ji and Kerr could both sit out Monday’s tie at Kingsmeadow.
Ji netted three goals in two matches for South Korea. She scored twice as her nation defeated Myanmar 7-0 while she was also on the scoresheet as South Korea beat Vietnam 3-0. The midfielder is more likely than Blues teammate Kerr to face Liverpool with her last international action coming last Sunday.
Kerr made three appearances for Australia, two from the bench in large victories over Chinese Taipei and Australia and one from the start. She scored one goal in the 7-0 rout of Chinese Taipei. The forward played 90 minutes of a 1-1 draw with China on Thursday and she is therefore unlikely to take to the field just four days later for her club.
Chelsea’s Women’s FA Cup fifth round tie against Liverpool has been switched from Sunday afternoon to Monday evening due to the threat of Storm Dennis.
