Sunderland have confirmed that this afternoon’s Women’s FA Cup fifth round tie against FA Women’s Super League club Birmingham City is on.
Arsenal’s fifth round meeting with Lewes has already been postponed while Chelsea’s tie with Liverpool was switched to Monday as a precaution to avoid Storm Dennis but it has been announced that at least one fifth round tie will go ahead this afternoon.
Sunderland have confirmed that both the conditions and playing surface at their Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground have been deemed playable and The Black Cats will be able to face top flight opposition in Birmingham City this afternoon. Sunderland boss Melanie Reay confirmed yesterday that the pitch was playable and the overnight wind and rain has not made the situation deteriorate.
The home side are currently fighting for promotion back to the second tier and currently lead the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division while opponents Birmingham City are finding life tough this season in the FA Women’s Super League.
Sunderland find themselves in the Women’s FA Cup fifth round after beating Watford 2-0 in the fourth round last month. Birmingham City qualified for the last-16 with a 3-0 victory at second tier club Sheffield United.
The match is scheduled to kick-off at 2pm with admission available on the gate. SAFC season card holders can gain half-price entry upon production of their season card.
