Sheffield United will be hoping to finally get their promotion push back underway on Sunday afternoon when Blackburn Rovers are the visitors to The Proact Stadium in Chesterfield.
The Blades are yet to play a match in February due to the recent postponement of their fixture at Charlton Athletic and manager Carla Ward will be keen for her side to keep the pressure on long-time FA Women’s Championship leaders Aston Villa with victory over struggling Rovers.
Sheffield United go into the match having been beaten 3-0 by Birmingham City in the Women’s FA Cup fourth round in their last outing. The South Yorkshire club will have been disappointed with that result with their opponents having struggled in their division this season.
In the league, The Blades have certainly been sharp with six victories in their last seven matches. Striker Katie Wilkinson has arguably become the most feared striker in the FA Women’s Championship this season with 19 goals in all competitions and she will be keen to build on her record of five goals in her last three league matches.
Vistors Blackburn Rovers have found the transition from the FA Women’s National League to FA Women’s Championship somewhat tricky this season and they arrive in Chesterfield just four points above the relegation zone.
A lack of goals has seen Rovers struggle to regularly collect points this season, however, their inability to keep clean sheets is hurting them the most. Gemma Donnelly’s side have failed to keep a clean sheet in six matches in all competitions while they have managed just one win during this sequence. The Lancashire outfit can take hope from the fact that they have already netted three goals against Sheffield United in their two previous meetings in the FA Women’s Championship and FA Women’s Continental League Cup this season.
The match is scheduled to kick-off at 1pm on Sunday afternoon with admission available both in advance by clicking here and on the day.
