Rianna Jarrett scored a brace on her Brighton & Hove Albion debut as The Seagulls defeated Crystal Palace 3-0 at Hayes Lane in the fifth round of the Women’s FA Cup this evening.
The striker joined Albion from Irish club Wexford Youths last month and she has become an instant hit for her new club after firing Brighton & Hove Albion into the quarter-finals of the Women’s FA Cup.
The visitors took the lead after just 14 minutes in Bromley when Jarrett curled a stunning effort into the net from 25 yards. Hope Powell’s side could have extended their lead just before the half-hour but Ini Umotong fired over from six yards.
Brighton & Hove Albion doubled their lead just after the interval with Jarrett again on target, the player already showing that she could prove to be a useful acquisition. The Sussex side completed a comprehensive victory 21 minutes from time when Umotong made up for her earlier miss with an impressive solo goal.
The Seagulls’ reward for their victory over FA Women’s Championship side Palace is a home tie in the quarter-finals against fellow FA Women’s Super League strugglers Birmingham City. The tie is scheduled to take place on Sunday 15 March with full ticket details set to be announced by Brighton & Hove Albion in due course.
