FA Women’s Championship promotion-chasers Sheffield United have completed the signing of England Under-17 international forward Lucy Watson according to official club press reports.
The 16-year-old striker joins The Blades from Yorkshire rivals Doncaster Rovers Belles where she successfully made the step up from the club’s Regional Talent Centre (RTC) into the first team squad. Watson was in the Belles’ Regional Talent Centre for less than two years before graduating into the senior environment.
Watson joins Sheffield United just weeks after linking up with England’s Under-17 squad for a mid-season training camp. The youngster played in a recent friendly against the United States. The player has also helped her country qualify for the UEFA Women’s Under-17 European Championship and she could be involved for The Young Lionesses again in the elite round of the competition later this year.
The teenager joins a Sheffield United side who are continuing to pursue a possible promotion to the FA Women’s Super League this season. The Blades trail league leaders Aston Villa by six points going into the business end of the campaign.
The length of Watson’s contract at The Proact Stadium has been left undisclosed while it is unknown whether the player will be drafted into the first team squad ahead of their home fixture against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
