Reading take a step towards going home with historic first training session

Reading Women have taken a step towards a return to the town with Kelly Chambers’ side having staged their first training session at the club’s new Bearwood training ground last week according to reports on The Royals’ official website.

The Berkshire club have been training at Bisham Abbey, at a facility which is almost 20 miles from the club’s traditional Madejski Stadium home but Reading are currently building a new training ground at Bearwood, just 3.4 miles away from the stadium.

It has been reported that Reading Women held a training session at their new training base for the very first time last week ahead of a permanent move to the facility once building work has been fully completed. The men’s academy sides have already played fixtures at Bearwood, although they are not yet permanent residents at the training ground.

Reading Women have been playing their home fixtures at Adams Park for the last few years, although several matches have been moved back to the Madejski Stadium including a handful of fixtures this season. Manager Chambers is keen for her side to play at The Madejski Stadium on a pemanent basis in the future, particularly with Reading’s joint-tenants London Irish set to move out in the summer with the rugby union outfit planning to play at Brentford’s new Community Stadium at Lionel Road from next season.

A move to Bearwood could play a part in Reading’s hopes of a return to the town and will help build and maintain equality with the men’s sides.
