Arsenal handed boost as midfielder returns to action following injury

Arsenal have received a fitness boost ahead of their Women’s FA Cup quarter-final tie against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday with midfielder Jill Roord having returned to fitness.

The 22-year-old Dutch midfielder is currently away on international duty with her country at the Tournoi de France.

Roord was set to start for The Netherlands in their opening match of the tournament against Brazil last Wednesday but the player pulled out after suffering a thigh injury in the warm-up. With the Arsenal squad having been heavily hit with injuries in recent weeks, fans could be forgiven for fearing the worst, particularly after Roord missed her country’s second fixture against Canada at the weekend. There could now finally be some good news for The Gunners though with Roord having returned to the Dutch side for their final Tournoi de France fixture against tournament hosts France in Valenciennes this evening.

Arsenal will be hoping that Roord comes through the match unscathed. The midfielder has started the last two matches for Joe Montemurro’s side and she is likely to be involved for The Gunners again when they face North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Meadow Park on Sunday.

The player joined Arsenal on a free transfer after leaving German club Bayern Munich in the summer and she has gone on to make a positive impact for the FA Women’s Super League champions.
