Arsenal players in self-isolation due to a confirmed Coronavirus case at the club were due to return to training at their London Colney training base tomorrow but have instead been informed to stay at home according to reports by Sky Sports.
The Gunners’ men’s first team manager Mikel Arteta tested positive for the Coronavirus almost two weeks ago forcing men’s, women’s and academy sides to go into isolation while the training centre at London Colney was closed for a deep clean.
Players of all Arsenal teams are scheduled to return to training tomorrow, however, the club have informed them to remain at home with social distancing having been advised by the UK government in recent days.
Arsenal Women have seven fixtures left to play in this season’s FA Women’s Super League while they remain involved in the Women’s FA Cup and UEFA Champions League. The players are likely to be tasked with following individual training and dietary plans at home with the season possibly set to recommence once the Coronavirus crisis has passed. Football in England is currently suspended until 30 April.
The Gunners are not the only club to close their training centre during the current crisis. Many of their FA Women’s Super League rivals have followed the same action to prevent the spread of the virus. Individual training in self-isolation is likely to become compulsory in the coming days as the government edge towards ‘lockdown’ measures across the UK.
