Canadian international forward Janine Beckie has signed a new two-year contract with Barclays FA Women’s Super League leaders Manchester City according to official reports from the club this evening.
The 25-year-old Colorado-born attacker was set to become a free agent this summer but has extended her contract at The Academy Stadium until the end of the 2021/2022 campaign.
Beckie joined Manchester City in August 2018 following a half-year spell with American National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club Sky Blue FC. The player has made 14 appearances for City in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League this season while she netted her first UEFA Women’s Champions League hat-trick in the 4-0 home victory over Swiss club FF Lugano 1976 in September. Beckie has built an excellent reputation on the field but she is also admired off the pitch with the forward having enjoyed a good relationship with the fans.
After spending the early days of her career with the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Beckie moved to USL W-League side Seattle Sounders before joining Houston Dash in 2016. The player spent two years at the Red Bull Arena prior to her spell with Sky Blue FC.
During her time as a Manchester City player, Beckie has lifted both the FA Women’s Continental League Cup and the Women’s FA Cup.
