Former Arsenal goalkeeper Sari van Veenendaal has signed a one-year deal with Eredivisie Vrouwen side PSV according to reports on the Dutch club’s official website.
The 30-year-old FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019 finalist left Meadow Park last summer and joined Spanish club Atletico Madrid. The player will now spend the 2020/2021 season back in her homeland after agreeing a deal with PSV ahead of their debut campaign in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
During her four years as an Arsenal player, Van Veenendaal won two FA Women’s Continental League Cups along with the FA Women’s Super League and the Women’s FA Cup. The keeper represented The Gunners on 48 occasions in the FA Women’s Super League, keeping 24 clean sheets in the process.
Since moving to Atletico Madrid last summer, Van Veenendaal has been made to share the goalkeeping duties with fellow net-minder Lola Gallardo. It is the latter who has made more league appearances for The Mattressers this season.
Van Veenendaal’s new club PSV have been awarded a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League with the club having led the Eredivisie Vrouwen at the time that the competition was suspended due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Sander Luiten’s side were seven points clear of nearest challengers Ajax with just two matches remaining of the regular season.
