Brighton & Hove Albion release five while midfielder rejects contract offer

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Hope Powell has released five first team players according to reports on the club’s official website.

Goalkeeper Sophie Harris, defenders Amanda Nilden and Fern Whelan, midfielder Kate Natkiel and forward Kate Natkiel have all left The People’s Pension Stadium.

The Seagulls will be without the services of a sixth player next season with French midfielder Lea Le Garrec having rejected the club’s offer of a new contract.

Former Arsenal keeper Harris has played a back-up role for Albion this season while she also spent time on loan at second tier club Lewes. Swedish defender Nilden made 10 appearances for The Seagulls in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League while Whelan has found game time much harder to come by.

Midfielder Natkiel has made just four league starts for Powell’s side with the player regularly named amongst the substitutes while Nigerian striker Umotong has added just one further top flight goal to her tally despite featuring in 14 of Albion’s 16 league matches.

French midfielder Le Garrec was arguably one of Brighton & Hove Albion’s top performers in 2019/2020 and the club were very keen to retain her services for another year, however, the player has made the decision to end her time in England and return home.
