Manchester United goalkeeper Aurora Mikalsen will leave the Barclays FA Women’s Super League club following the expiry of her one-year contract at the end of this month according to official club media reports.
The Norwegian-born stopper signed for The Red Devils last summer following a successful trial spell which saw the youngster train with Casey Stoney’ side during their pre-season tour of Norway.
Despite registering 13 appearances for her previous side Kolbotn IL, the keeper has only made one appearance for latest club Manchester United this season in their 11-1 FA Women’s Continental League Cup thrashing of second tier club Leicester City at the Leigh Sports Village. Mikalsen was handed just one chance to impress for United by manager Stoney after falling behind both Mary Earps and Emily Ramsey in the pecking order.
After the player’s departure was confirmed earlier today, manager Stoney placed her thanks on record for all of Mikalsen’s ‘hard work and fantastic contribution to the side’ despite the lack of playing opportunities during her time at the Leigh Sports Village.
The United boss went on to explain that the keeper ‘provided some real competition within the goalkeeping department during a tough season’.
Mikalsen’s confirmed departure is the first at Manchester United during the close season.
