Manchester United have signed highly-rated Welsh international midfielder Carrie Jones according to reports by BBC Sport Wales.
The 16-year-old Newtown-born midfielder has been playing senior football with Cardiff City this season where her performances have really caught the eye.
Jones made nine appearances for The Bluebirds in the FA Women’s National League South this season while she netted an impressive three goals. The promise shown whilst playing for Cardiff City was noticed by Wales boss Jayne Ludlow who offered Jones her senior international debut in a 6-0 victory over the Faroe Islands last August.
It has today been confirmed that Jones has signed for Barclays FA Women’s Super League club Manchester United and she will initially link up with their Under-23 side next season. United have a great pedigree at academy level and the teenager is sure to progress during her time in the North West.
Jones played most of her early years in boys teams. The youngster represented Newtown White Stars before later joining Berriew Juniors.
Whilst being classed as a great team player, Jones also has the potential to be a real leader. The midfielder has already captained her country at Under-16 and Under-17 levels and further international honours certainly beckon for the talented teenager.
