Bristol City have confirmed via their official website that Jeon Ga-Eul and Eartha Cumings will both be leaving the club this summer.
Attacking midfielder Ga-Eul joined The Robins from Hwacheon KSPO in her native South Korea in January 2020 but will be departing the club after less than six months in the South West.
As for Cumings, the Scottish goalkeeper joined from Spartans FC in 2018 and departs the club without making a league appearance for Bristol City during that time. With a player of Sophie Baggaley’s calibre ahead of her in the goalkeeping pecking order, it was always going to be an uphill battle for Cumings to break into the starting XI.
“I want to thank Jeon and Eartha for all their hard work during their time at the club” manager Tanya Oxtoby said following the announcement. “They’ve both been a pleasure to have within the squad and we wish them both the best of luck for the future.”
News of Jeon and Cuming’s departures comes just a couple of weeks after Poppy Pattinson, Katie Robinson and Olivia Chance confirmed that they will be venturing to fresh pastures for the upcoming campaign. Although the departures of some players will be seen as a blow to Oxtoby’s side it will create space for fresh competition to be drafted into the squad.
How manager Oxtoby manages the comings and goings during the summer could prove crucial to Bristol City’s survival bid next season. The club narrowly avoided the drop this season and recruitment will be a very delicate balancing act which The Robins will need to get right if they are to maintain their Barclays FA Women’s Super League status beyond the 2020/2021 season.
